Hellen (Smith) Lybrand

Services for Hellen S. Lybrand will be 11:00 am Wednesday at Barr-Price Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Burial will follow in Boiling Springs UMC cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children's Home.
Hellen passed away on November 18, 2017 after many years of decline and a hard fought and courageous battle with dementia. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and family.
Hellen was born May 2, 1941 to Marion W. and Gertelene Chaney Smith in Columbia, SC. Hellen graduated from Eau Claire High School class of 1959. She lived in the Lex/Cola area and retired from Electrolux Construction Products with 28 years of service as an administrative assistant. She was a member of the Survivors SS Class at Lexington Baptist Church where Hellen also served on multiple committees. She was also a member of National Guard Association of SC Auxiliary and the Cloverleafs Square Dance Club. She enjoyed sharing her love and talents by helping others in need, cooking and entertaining in her home especially during the holidays, working with family support groups for the National Guard and with multiple church ministries. Although her years of battling dementia had robbed her of any expressions, the  first thing most people remember about her was her beautiful endearing smile. She was a truly cherished wife, mother, daughter and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy Lybrand, mother, Gertelene Chaney Smith, children, Denise McCaston, Rusty McClary (Laura), Joni Proper (Aaron), John Brooks (Ashley), stepdaughter, Jenny Lybrand, 12 grandchildren,  8 great grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by siblings, Francis, Bonnie, Jane and Marion.
