Harry “The Hat” Benenhaley, 71, lost his hard-fought battle to cancer on Friday, October 20th, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marion
Bryant Benenhaley; his children, Lisa Smith Ghrigsby (Lanny), Harriett Renee
Alewine (Brad), Wendy Simmons (Clay), Christina Jones (Chris), eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Anderson “Andy” and Belford; one sister, Alice Massengill (Carlie); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Luther and Alice Benenhaley; his brother Ray, and his granddaughter Victoria Jones.
He loved his family and worked hard to provide for them, at times working two to three jobs. He wasn’t afraid of hard work or a challenge. He used his work ethics and talents to start three businesses, one of which, America’s Best Inc., was very successful. Harry loved the game of golf and was a long-time member of Mid Carolina Club. He enjoyed many good days on the course with his very true and loyal friends.
Harry accepted Jesus’ salvation and expressed his appreciation for all God’s gifts. Harry would say to all his friends, “Thank you for your prayers, friendship, and support to my family.” He would challenge you to live life as God intended, “one day at a time,” hold your family close to your heart, and treasure your friends.
Harry’s family would like to express to Dr. James Wells and his staff at Lexington Oncology how genuinely grateful they are for helping Harry fight this battle. They, like Harry, gave all they had to overcome this disease.
In lieu of flowers, Harry would prefer that a donation to Lexington Church of God Building Fund be made in his memory. He would say, “Don’t waste your money on flowers for me.” A celebration of Harry’s life will be held on  Monday, October 23, 2017, at 11:00 am, at Lexington Church of God, 1331 Nazareth Road, Lexington, SC 29073. The family will receive visitors an hour before the service.
