Grace Bush Hendrix, 89, of West Columbia, SC, passed away on August 7, 2017. A funeral service celebrating Grace’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, August 11, 2017, at Mount Hebron United Methodist Church in West Columbia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 pm, prior to the service, in the Mount Hebron sanctuary.
Grace was born May 12, 1928 in Johnston, SC, one of twelve children born to the late John Bruce Bush and Marie Viola Buddin Bush. She was a graduate of Johnston High School. Grace was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her favorite activities were spending time with and cooking for those she loved. You would often see her outside working in her yard. Grace’s life was dedicated to caring for others – friends in need, her immediate family, her mother in the final years of her life and especially her husband, Herbert, during his extended illness prior to his passing. Grace loved the Lord. She was a longtime member of Mount Hebron United Methodist Church, the Minnie Shull Circle and a charter member of the Wesley Fellowship Class. The Circle and Fellowship Class are honorary pallbearers.
Grace is survived by her son, Jim Hendrix, of West Columbia and daughter, Susan Hendrix Gantt (Charles) of Lexington; grandchildren, Christopher Gantt and Shawna Gantt, six step-grandchildren; siblings, Maude Andrews, William (Hyon) Bush, Mary (Richard) Harris and Margaret Bush; many nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, Herbert Durham Hendrix in 2002; brothers, Leon Bush, Watson Bush, Ike Bush, Brunson Bush and sisters, Mozelle Shealy, Daisy Griffith, Alma Gist Cooper.
