February 1, 1922 ~ September 17, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old


George William Schuster, 95, of West Columbia, SC passed away September 17, 2017, serenely in his sleep. 

A celebration of his life,” Milkshakes and Memories” will be held at 6:00pm Thursday, September 28, 2017  in Asbury Hall at Lexington United Methodist Church, 309 East Main Street, Lexington, SC  Friends are invited to join us for an uplifting send-off and celebration of George’s life well lived.

George was born in Cleveland Ohio on February 1, 1922 to George and Marie (Eitel) Schuster, thankful, proud new Americans from Austria Hungary who arrived at Ellis Island in New York, New York. He graduated from Collinwood High   in Cleveland and attended Case Western University.  He served in WW11 as a navigator in the Air Corps, attaining the rank of Captain and then remained as a Reserve officer in The United States Air Force until 1957.

George was married to the love of his life, Marie Schuster (Garman) on July 27, 1957 and lived on his farm in East Troy Wisconsin until moving to West Columbia, SC in 1968 when transferred by his company Allis Chalmers .

George enjoyed the outdoors, working with his hands, swimming at Lake Murray and Tybee Island, Georgia, .  Most especially he loved cats and cared for many, along with a myriad of other critters throughout his life.  He also loved Milkshakes and cookies!

George is survived by his wife of 60 Years, Marie, daughter Heidi Black and her husband, Bryan, Grandchildren Mitchell Black and his wife Collin and granddaughter Faith Black and her fiance’ Nathan Wannamaker. He is also survived by Thomas O. Garman and his wife Cynthia, and nieces and nephews in Wisconsin and Ohio.  He was predeceased by his parents ,and  sister Ann Schuster Kirchner of Cleveland, Ohio.

To carry on his love of pets friends are encouraged to support Pets Inc. 300 Orchard Drive, West Columbia, SC with funds, foods or supplies.

Mission accomplished, George. Job well done.
