George A. Harris Jr., son of the late George A. Harris Sr. and Maude McGee Harris, was born March 27, 1934, in Edgefield, South Carolina. He entered to rest on June 25th, 2017 with his family by his side. After graduating High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. During his service he received numerous Good Conduct Medals and a National Defense Service Medal. After retiring with an Honorable Discharge as a Senior Chief Naval Officer for 21 years, he began working for the South Carolina Budget and Control Board. He worked for the state for 20 years before retiring in 1994. He is survived by: his loving wife of 57 years, Peggy L. Harris; sons: Gary Harris, Geoffrey Harris and Glenn Harris; grandchildren: Wendi Harris and Felicia and Anthony Madden; great-grandchildren: Summer Presley and Weston Madden; sister: Lou Lessard; sister-in-law: Jessica Harris.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, June 28th at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, with the visitation from 3:00-4:00 and the service following immediately after in the Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
