Charles R Callahan

Charles “Richard” Callahan, 67, passed away on October 1, 2017 surrounded by his family and loved ones.

 A celebration of his life will be held at Barr-Price Funeral Home in Lexington, SC Saturday October 7, 2017.  There will be a visitation at Noon with a service following at 1pm. 

 Richard was born on November 22, 1949 in Bennettsville, SC to the late Wilson Callahan and Queen Smith.  He was a passionate and hard worker, working both as a crane operator at M & J Welding and as tractor trailer operator at V.B. Hook for most of his life.  In his younger years he also loved competitive racing. He spent countless hours pursuing this passion, racing everything from boats to go-karts to racecars. In his later years he spent the majority of his free time volunteering to help coach his grandson’s baseball teams and spending time with his family. When he wasn’t doing this or working he enjoyed watching his USC Gamecocks, Nascar, golf tournaments and above all else, any sport his grandson was involved in. 

Richard is survived by Traudy Callahan, his wife of West Columbia, SC; daughter Cecile Callahan McCauley of Lexington, SC;  brother William “Bill” McDowell  of Highpoint, NC; sister Elizabeth “Betty” Taylor and husband Charles of West Columbia, SC; brother Jimmy Callahan and wife Dawn of South Congaree, SC.; and his grandson and best friend Ayden McCauley.  He was known to many as Richard, and to Ayden he was known affectionately as “Granddaddy”.  His solid and dependable character will be missed by many who called him friend and the memory of his love for his family will never be forgotten.
