Catherine Carr Swygert

Catherine Carr Swygert, 89, returned to her heavenly home on March 21, 2018. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God gave her lasting peace. Catherine was born to the late Robert Carr and Blanche Chandler Carr in Greenville, SC on February 9, 1929. She graduated from Furman University with a degree in History. Her love of history was accompanied and strengthened by her hobbies traveling, reading, and researching family history. Catherine was known for her genuine heart, eagerness to smile, and sweet soul. Catherine was married to her best friend and soulmate, the late Harold Barrett Swygert, Jr. for 63 years. Together, they raised three sons and Catherine took great pride and joy in being a mother. Catherine is survived by her sons, H. Barrett Swygert III (wife Russellette Swygert, children Jay White and Julie McDowell), Steven Carr Swygert, and Todd Franklin Swygert (wife Pat Swygert, children Patrick Hanko and Allyson Swygert). In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church 1000 B Ave., West Columbia, SC 29169 in addition to prayers.

A memorial service for Catherine will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church in West Columbia, her church home of over 50 years. Her family wishes to thank Lighthouse Hospice for their love and support over the last few weeks as well as the staff at Wellmore of Lexington.
