Belle Hinson Schafer, 95, passed peacefully at her home in Lexington, SC on January 16, 2018.
She was the daughter of the late Burnie Hinson and Osie Mae Hinson of Lancaster, and is survived by her husband of 44 years, Mike Schafer of Lexington. She was the mother of Jimmy Baker (Vickie) of Lancaster, and the late Gloria Baker Edgar of Prosperity, Sally Schafer Rhodes of Lexington, Gary Schafer (Lucinda) of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Patty Schafer of West Columbia, and Cindy Schafer Suter (Peter) of Winterthur, Switzerland. She is survived by her sister Margie Lambert of West Columbia, and was predeceased by two sisters, Edith Connell of Lancaster and Betty Ballard of Pageland. She was the sister-in-law of Chet Schafer of Chandler, Arizona. Belle was an inspiration to a large and loving family that included 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 9 nieces and nephews, and a multitude of great-nieces and nephews who all adored her.
Belle was devoted to her home and family, which she served tirelessly until her final days. She retired from the Lexington County Planning and Development Office, and was a faithful member of Lexington Baptist Church. Her loving service to those around her will be remembered and cherished.
Visitation will be held at Lexington Baptist Church on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with a service to follow. Memorials may be made in memory of Belle Schafer to Lexington Baptist Church, 308 East Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072. The family wishes to thank Hospice Care of Tri-County for their loving care in our time of need.
